Okay to starting the new blog, but don’t lose it again!
What kind of events will work at the Show Me Center during this economy? High School basketball? College sports? Country concerts? Monster Trucks? Bull Riding? Rock Concerts? Christian? Rap? Alternative music? Something else that I have not mentioned? Theatre?

  2. showmecenter01 Says:

Rebel – Wow! Great questions, ones that I readily admit I don’t know all the answers to. Jeff Dunham put on a heck of a show in June, one that I still hear folks talking about even today, and now we’re fielding more requests for a part 2…. We had a great performance rock’wise with the Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Seether and Hurt tour and, despite the weather, the sold out show fans STILL came to get down here at the SMC. Carrie Underwood, Sugarland and many others made fans dance in the aisles here over the last year and we have Josh Turner and local sensation the John D. Hale band coming, well, tomorrow.

Despite the economy, fans still enjoy coming to the Show Me Center to get what only live entertainment can provide, that feeling (the little bumps that come up on your skin as the guitar riff washes over the arena, or that smile you just can’t wipe off when you hear, LIVE, your favorite joke or lyric). We’re always looking, always listening and thrive on your comments to help us know what we should be bringing here to the SMC.

I know that didn’t really answer your questions, but hope it provided some insight.

    Cheers!
    Shannon

I’ve missed the blog, welcome back! I know you probably get tired of me beating this same drum all the time but Cheech & Chong are in this region next spring with lots of open dates. How about a little stoner comedy to counter balance all the redneck stuff?!

  4. showmecenter01 Says:

Android, I think it would be a great show. I’ll bring it up again to see what I can shake out….

  5. Android Says:

How about checking onto the James Taylor/Carole King tour starting up next year? They’ve only booked a few U.S. dates so I’m not sure what size venues they’ll be playing but I think that would be a great one for here.

  6. Bigfoot Says:

Will the Monster Truck show be back ?

  7. showmecenter01 Says:

Android – That would be a great show, James Taylor is one of the best modern day storytellers EVER. I’m bringing this show up as soon as possible here.

Bigfoot – We’re getting close to an announcement… Should be VERY soon.

    Thanks for the comments!

  8. showmecenter01 Says:

Bigfoot – Just released that we’ll be having a presale on the upcoming Monster Truck Winter Nationals event, I’ll go ahead and give you the inside scoop.
    Monster Truck Winter Nationals – February 19 & 20 – Both Shows at 7:30 p.m.

Presale to begin at 10 am on Friday, December 18th and end at midnight. While grabbing those presale tickets with the Code: BIGFOOT, you can save a bit of $$ on the Friday night performance by picking up any ticket in the house for only $15! It only lasts during the presale, so head on up to the SMC or visit us at http://www.showmecenter.biz.

  9. showmecenter01 Says:

Oops forgot to add that the Monster Truck tickets will then go on sale to the public on December 19th at 10:00 am.

    Cheers!

  10. showmecenter01 Says:

Android – Have you happened to catch any good “classic” rock shows lately?

  11. Android Says:

I caught Loggins & Messina at the Carson Center a little while back. Very good show! May go to the Alton Belle Casino next month to see one of my all time favorites, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. They’re semi-retired and only do a few shows a year but it’s the same night Foreigner is at the Carson Center so it’s a big decision. I may just flip a coin. BTW, did anyone else see Foreigner on PBS last night? Excellent show, even though there’s only one original member still in the band.

  12. showmecenter01 Says:

I actually saw the Foreigner show on the screen and was tempted to check it out, but didn’t… The Ozark Mountain Devils, that’s a new one to me, going to have to check it out after posting here.

I like the flip the coin idea, I think I need to implement more coin flipping into my entertainment decisions too.

    Happy Holidays to all.

  13. showmecenter01 Says:

Wow! Should have youtube’d the Ozark Mountain Daredevils earlier… If You Wanna Get To Heaven You Gotta…

  14. Android Says:

Man, I must be getting old! It really surprises me that you’d never heard of OMD. They played Riverfest a couple of times before it folded and they’re from Missouri. If you think that song was crazy find a clip of them playing “Chicken Train.” Their CD “Time Warp” is one of the most excellent “Best Of” CD’s ever. It’s almost like they contacted me and asked what songs to put on it! It’s a shame that their biggest hit ever was that insipid “Jackie Blue.” That was a pop song that their record company forced on them in an attempt to clean them up and turn them into the next Eagles. Something they always resisted because they were just good ol’ mountain boys that didn’t want to live in L.A.

  15. Android Says:

Hey Shannon, quick question. I notice there’s a place for an avatar by our comments. How do we go about adding one?

  16. Big Lee Says:

Shannon, glad to see the blog back!!! I was wondering if there was any way you can check on the Three Days Grace/ Breaking Benjamin/Flyleaf tour starting up? I know the last time 3DG was here they were awesome, just as good as they were when they were here in 2003!!!

  17. showmecenter Says:

Android – Hmmm… Looks like I did it all wrong… Here’s the way to add an avatar to your Word Press Account.

Big Lee – GREAT suggestion! I’m heading the the world wide webs right now to see what I can see on their routing and I’ll be sure to bring it up ASAP.

Hope everyone’s having a FANTASTIC New Year so far.

*edited for link to adding avatar in WordPress link.

  18. CHRIS WILBURN Says:

would love to win a pair of tickets,my girls love the wwe.

  19. Big Lee Says:

For the Three Days Concert, I see they are still announcing dates for the tour, hopefully you can get it here!!!

  20. Android Says:

There’s another “non-redneck” comedian touring that I would like to see here. Lewis Black is hilarious. I love the way he mercilessly assaults stupidity on all sides of the political spectrum, not just conservatives!

  21. showmecenter Says:

Big Lee – We’re looking into it, but I don’t have anything solid… Let’s keep those fingers crossed.

Android – I’ve caught Lewis on Comedy Central a few times and he’s hilarious! Bringing him up in our meeting as well.

    Thanks!

  22. Android Says:

Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band just announced the first round of dates for their summer tour. This years version has Edgar “Frankenstein” Winter, Gary “Dream Weaver” Wright, Rick “Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo” Derringer and members of Mr. Mister and the Romantics. That’s a pretty good line-up if you ask me, they’ll do songs from each members bands plus Beatles and Ringo solo tunes. The one time I saw Ringo’s annual tour it was great, one of the best shows I’d seen in years. I’d love to see them here!

  23. showmecenter Says:

Those Beatles are becoming fewer and fewer, I’d like to see him!

  24. Big Lee Says:

There is a new Sevendust tour starting up. It would be great to see them at the SMC!!!

  25. Android Says:

Hey Shane, have you heard about the new Trans-Siberian Orchestra Tour? For the first time they’re doing a non-Christmas tour called “Beethoven’s Last Night.” What prompted me to mention it is that they’re playing smaller venues this time. Maybe we could get them back here?
    http://www.trans-siberian.com/tour1/index.php

  26. showmecenter Says:

Big – I’d like to see Sevendust too… I’ll see who’s promoting that one and bring it up.

Android – believe me, we’ve heard of the TSO tour. I know there were talks earlier, but at this time I haven’t seen a hold in yet. Certainly going to have to look back into that one as well.

One band that has been “nibbling” is Lady Antebellum. I know that we had some requests for them on our facebook and myspace page, anyone have a thought on them here? Here’s a link to one of their popular songs on YouTube “I Run To You”

  27. showmecenter Says:

We’ve also had some requests from the Southeast Missouri State University Student Activities Council (SAC, from now on) looking at Trey Songz, and R&B artist. Here is a link to his “I Need A Girl” (Atlantic Records) on YouTube.

  28. showmecenter Says:

I’m also going to change up the “intro” on this post to reflect the posts it now contains. Deleting the old “Two Cents” post and moving some of that into the intro of this one.

    Cheers!

  29. showmecenter Says:

Are there any thoughts on Chevelle and Three Days Grace?

  30. Big Lee Says:

I have seen both bands before. Three Days Grace awesome live!!!! Chevelle I was not that impressed with. Definitely a good idea to get Three Days Grace to come back!!!

  31. showmecenter Says:

What if Flyleaf was added in there Big?

  32. Big Lee Says:

I think Flyleaf would be an awesome addition to the lineup!!! Lacey the leadsinger has great vocals, especially for being so tiny and it doesn’t hurt that she is really cute!!!

I take it, you must be talking about the second leg of the 3DG tour, since the first leg has Breaking Benjamin in there for Chevelle. I really hope you can make this show happen!!!

Also, any luck with the Sevendust show? I know the new CD comes out in April so thats gotta mean if you can not get the Sevendust/Drowning Pool tour then the next round should be wide open.

  33. showmecenter Says:

    Thanks Big.

You’re spot on with the second leg of the 3DG show. We’re really trying to get them to route through, but it looks like they may go a little further south instead. I’m crossing my fingers on it, last time 3DG was here it was one heck of a show.

Still looking into the Sevendust show, many of the touring acts are really strapped for dates, hopefully we’ll be able to find an opening and slot someone in there soon.

  34. Big Lee Says:

I got the Ticketmaster email showing that 3DG is coming to 2 spots in Mississippi. Does that mean that SMC is out of luck booking the show?

  35. showmecenter Says:

We sure are… We were just outside (routing-wise) of where they needed us to be before hitting the “big” show in MS.

The Southeast Missouri State University Student Activities Council (try typing that 3 times fast) seems interested in Cobra Starship. Any thoughts from anyone?

  36. Tommy Says:

Cobra Starship=Awesome. Any idea on who’d be with them?

  37. showmecenter Says:

At this time it’s looking to be just them, maybe a local opener. But, of course, everything can change and they could bring someone else or they’ll could have another commitment.

  38. Tommy Says:

I see, well if you get them I think it’d be a great show, I’d def. be here

  39. Android Says:

Peter Frampton is touring this summer, first with Yes then later with The Steve Miller Band. I’d like to see either one of those classic rock double bills here.

  40. showmecenter Says:

Peter Frampton with YES* and Steve Miller Band*? I’ll have to look into that right away, nobody rocks a talk box like Frampton. Check this out, he’s certainly still got it!

We’ve had a lot of requests for classic rock here, and we’ve been looking, believe me. Anyone want to share their opinion of Great White or Bad Company?

Thanks for the heads up Android!

    *edited, because I can’t read. :)

  41. showmecenter Says:

Anyone have a few cents worth of discussion on a Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper show?

  42. Android Says:

I’ve never seen Great White but they’re one of the few “Hair Bands” that I kinda like. Surely they would be in some kind of package tour, I couldn’t see them being a big draw on their own.

Would that be Bad Company with Paul Rogers on vocals or Brian Howe? Both are good but you can’t beat the raw power of Rogers’ singing.

Love ‘Coop but I don’t know about Rob Zombie. To quote Hank Hill, “That boy ain’t right!” That double bill would probably draw a good crowd, and quite a few protestors, but I’d probably skip it.

  43. jwbirk81 Says:

Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper would definitely rock !! SMC doesn’t have enough rock bands, not that country is bad…just not all the time. Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, 3 Doors Down, Shinedown to name a few.

  44. Rebel Says:

Here’s my best one liner of the week.

A person said upon finding a penny on the ground, ” A penny for your thoughts.”

Reply: “No thanks, You’ll be expecting change”

  45. jwbirk81 Says:

Two guys walk into a bar…
    A Third one ducks

  46. jwbirk81 Says:

A crowd of people were throwing stones at a wench one day.
Jesus walked up to them and said:” He who without sin throw the first stone.” A Old slow walking woman walked over and knelt down and picked up a stone and threw it on the ground. Jesus looked astonished and said” Sometimes mother you annoy me.”

  47. jwbirk81 Says:

A neutron walks into a bar and asks the bartender how much for a drink.
The bartender replies for you no charge!

  48. Big Lee Says:

That would be awesome if you could get Rob Zombie here!!! Can’t wait to see him at Rockstar Mayhem in July. Also, KoRn is starting up a tour which would be awesome if you could get them to play here!!!

I know it is really out there but the Insane Clown Posse is starting up a tour as well. I mentioned in the old forum but I still think it would be great to see them here in Cape!!!

    • showmecenter Says:

Big, it’s still out there and we’re still looking!

ICP the Faygo Root Beer drinking juggalos! I’ve never been able to catch these guys live but I’ve heard that even if you can’t stand their music you should still see it! I’ve listened to them since The Great Milenko album back a few years and these guys are… Different.

Thanks for those suggestions keep em rolling!
      -Shannon

  49. Big Lee Says:

Yeah, I won tickets to see ICP back in November at Pop’s and it was a good show. I agree that the music was better when I was 14, instead of now but they still put on a great show, well deserving of the SMC stage!!!

Also, to go polar opposite of this, what about the band Skillet? They seem to play everywhere around here except Cape. I definitely think they would sell out the SMC, now that they have that crossover audience.

Any updates with the Cobra Starship show? Would it be setup like the Ludo show last year, with half the arena curtained off? Are y’all willing to book smaller bands and using that setup?

One other thing, is there any way y’all could book a Smackdown house show or another TNA show? I think the TNA show would have done better the first time had it not been booked on a Sunday afternoon before a WWE ppv.

  50. showmecenter Says:

Big Lee – Cobra Starship went the way of the DoDo for us here, SAC was looking at bringing them in but couldn’t find a good route to accomplish it.

We’ve been looking at Skillet, in fact, they’ve been looking at us too! They have a HUGE amount of crossover appeal (similar to a harder “Jars of Clay” back in the day). We’d certainly like to have them come to the SMC, hopefully we’ll be able to find a date and route that works for them.

TNA has expressed a great deal of interest in coming back, they had a VERY loyal group that did a lot of marketing for the show, but I agree, they had a pretty tough date here to pull out. Hopefully they’ll be swinging through again soon. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the input, great band suggestions!

  51. jwbirk81 Says:

Any new news about Jeff Dunham?

  52. Brandon/whatever you want to call me Says:

    Sharon,
I agree ENTIRELY with BIG LEE, Skillet would be a great show here, they have alot of fan base here. not to mention they are a Christian/Religious group– which would be great for this area of southern missouri.

    Brandon

  53. showmecenter Says:

Jwbirk – Not yet, it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to book him this Spring… But hey, who knows in this crazy entertainment business what may come up.

Brandon – Skillet is really on our radar right now, we’ve also had some interest from a tour featuring Third Day, Michael W. Smith and Toby Mac… Any thoughts on that show?

Thanks again for all the input, your insights always help us out here!

  54. Tommy Jackson Says:

Theres rumors going around that Eminem is going to tour the U.S. later this year, I know its a long shot and that he’ll probably play bigger arenas, but if at all possible and the rumors are true, yall should def. try to get him booked

  55. Big Lee Says:

I really hope you can pull this Skillet show off. Do you know who will be coming with them or what general day yall are trying to book the show around? Mine and Brandon’s wanting the Skillet show is because of it being a rock show, not a christian music show. I know personally, I have no interest at all of the show with Third Day, much rather see that Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper show!!!

  56. Brandon... yada yada Says:

true… i do feel that we need another rock show, but i also know that skillet is a Christian rock band, meaning there would be some draw from the religious community for it as well. I kind of recall that a band called Hawk Nelson was at a church here in town.. idk if you could get them in here or not but i thought they were another christian/religous rock band… idk

  57. Big Lee Says:

This summer there is supposed to be the Rockstar Uproar tour with Disturbed and Stone Sour!!! It would be great if you could get it at the SMC!!!

  58. showmecenter Says:

Wow! Thanks for all the input here. I’ll start at the top:

Tommy – Good idea, but Eminem may be a wee bit out of the price range… I’ll forward it on though for sure!

Big Lee – We just announced the World Vision “Make A Difference Tour”, consisting of TobyMac, Michael W. Smith, Third Day and hosted by author Max Lucado. I believe Skillet may still be out there though, and one never really knows. The Rockstar Uproar Tour sounds pretty good, after typing here I’m off to research it to put it up on the radar! *edit: Just looked up the Rockstar Uproar Tour, that would be pretty much an outdoor festival…… Great bands and GREAT ticket though. May be worth a trip to KC…

Brandon – Spot on, Skillet is pretty hot in both the secular/non-secular crowds, we’d really like to have them here at the SMC at sometime. Where did Hawk Nelson play at? I’ll be looking them up too!

Thanks everyone and keep those ideas flowing!

  59. Big Lee Says:

I know this may be out there but what about Godsmack? They seem to be booking individual dates. That would prolly be the greatest show in the history of the SMC!!!

  60. showmecenter Says:

Big… Guess who may be looking at the SMC?

Anyone else out there a fan of Godsmack? Let us know.

  61. Tommy Says:

Never really listened to Godsmack but I heard a new song by them on the radio the other day and I LOVE it!

  62. Big Lee Says:

That is great news!!! Do whatever it takes to get Godsmack here!!!

  63. tom Says:

    Godsmack

  64. Brandon person Says:

Hawk Nelson i belive played at the church right accross or close to Youngstown party supply on kingshighway. totally a fan of godsmack… would be very interesting if they made it here…

  65. chris bear Says:

Godsmack seen them 5 times, would be a great show for smc.try and book this one they will not disappoint you

  66. showmecenter Says:

Just walked in this morning and WOW, passing on the support up the chain to see what we can do!

  67. SemoStudent Says:

Godsmack is God awful. I would love to see you bring Clutch to the SMC. I will list some other bands that are gaining more fan support, but are not all that well known. It would probably be pretty easy to get them to play the SMC:

    Every Time I Die
    Underoath
    Emery
    Silverstein
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster

  68. showmecenter Says:

SemoStudent – You may be the first to pull Clutch out, I’ve been a fan of them for a while now, they’re certainly picking up more fans from the earlier concerts I caught.

For those not familiar with Clutch here’s a little sample:
This isn’t totally what they sound like but one of their more recent offerings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab6lr2b66Ig

Thanks for the feedback SemoStudent, hope to hear even more from everyone!

  69. Big Lee Says:

While seeing Clutch or Maylene and the Sons of Disaster would be awesome, none of those bands together or separate would draw enough people to fill AC arena, much less the SMC. I do know that Maylene will be playing at Firebird in STL in July.

As I sit here and watch Mallrats, I think if would be almost as cool as Godsmack coming, if Kevin Smith brought his tour to the SMC!!!

    • showmecenter Says:

Big – You’re in the right state there on Clutch, I have to agree that they would be below the total seating in the SMC, but given a good package and, of course, price I think they’d do well in a “intimate theater” setting similar to the setup for Buddy Guy.

We’re still looking at Godsmack, and hopefully getting a little closer… Keep those fingers crossed on the show!

Kevin Smith is one interesting cat, never really realized just how many fingers he had in so many pies. I’ll have to look into that one soon!

  70. Android Says:

The Scorpions are booking dates for their farewell tour. You would think that this would be too big a show for the SMC but take a look at their tour schedule. While they are playing some big venues they’re also playing quite a few that are even smaller than the SMC such as Mud Island (cap. 5000) Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheatre (cap. 6000) and Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami (cap. 6500). Not exactly my favorite band but I think they would be a great one to get here!

    • showmecenter Says:

Android – Since the REO Speedwagon show at the SEMO Fair we’ve had SO many requests to bring back “Classic” artists (which according to Classic Rock stations throughout the States now includes… sigh… Pearl Jam) and we’ve really been looking for a band that would route through. The Scorpions would be a GREAT addition to the SMC!

I’m going to run this one up the flag pole and see what waves. Thanks!

  71. Android Says:

The Zac Brown band played Mud Island in Memphis last night. I didn’t hear about it until the last minute or I would have gone. I think this genre busting new artist would be great for the SMC. He appeals to both rock and country fans and will get even more exposure to a younger crowd when he tours opening for Dave Matthews later this summer. Check out his CMT Crossroads show with Jimmy Buffett, it was great!

    • showmecenter Says:

The Zac Brown Band is absolutely ROCKET hot, still! We’ve had our eyes on these talented performers for a while now and just haven’t been able to find a “route that works”, but believe me, they won’t be falling to the side of the road for us anytime soon. Hopefully we’ll have them take the stage here sometime…

  72. Android Says:

I just saw on Pollstar that Zac Brown is beginning to book fall dates. He’s in Oklahoma City 9/16. That’s getting pretty close to here. I sure hope you do all you can to get him to the SMC. He’s one of the few country acts I would be excited about seeing!

  73. Tommy Says:

How about trying to get Boyce Avenue on there next tour? It’d probably be a Ludo sized show, but they are an amazing band and I can only imagine it’d be a great experience

  74. Android Says:

    Shannon;

Who in the heck are the Carter Twins and why are they playing the SMC Aug. 22nd? Looking them up they appear to be a new country band. Maybe they’re the opening act for someone like Zac Brown (he said with his fingers crossed)?

    • showmecenter Says:

They are a band playing for the Welcome Back Student Picnic… Keep them crossed for Zac Brown, rumor around here is that they’re looking at the SMC again for a possible route.

      • Jwbirk81 Says:

I love the Zac Brown Band…good news hopefully
        Any news on Jeff Dunham?

      • showmecenter Says:

Hey there Jw! We haven’t heard any thing yet from Jeff Dunham lately. I know that we would certainly like to be on his next tour! The Zac Brown Band would be a great fit here too!

  75. Tommy Says:

I’m not sure when they’re touring again, but what about Weezer?

  76. Android Says:

If you’re looking for classic rockers for the SMC, how about Meat Loaf? He’s booking dates for a tour supporting his latest album. I’ve seen him twice and he was great both times. Whether you like his music or not I’d recommend attending one of his shows because he’s one of the most dynamic live performers I’ve ever seen!

    • showmecenter Says:

Lately there have been more and more requests for “Classic” and even “Glam Rock” bands, believe me, we take these requests into account each and every show we look at. Meat would be a great fit too, huge name recognition and I can’t think of a person who just out right wouldn’t want to see him perform (I’ve heard he’s GREAT!). I’m bringing this one on up too.

  77. Shellee Jo Says:

    Hey Shannon,

What about some LoCash Cowboys! They put on an AMAZING show!!!

  78. Big Lee Says:

Are there any updates on the status of either Skillet or Godsmack coming to the SMC?

    • showmecenter Says:

Godsmack we’re still REALLY looking at, right now they’re still getting together a particular leg of their tour, we certainly hope that route will include the SMC.

  79. Android Says:

A few months ago you asked us what we thought about Bad Company playing the SMC. I just read an article about their current tour and found that it is almost entirely the original band, only the bass player is different. Any news on the possibilty of them playing here?

    • showmecenter Says:

We’re still looking at Bad Company, seem to be a solid band, solid fans and would be a good show to bring, but I’ll admit, I haven’t heard any new news on them yet…

  80. Shellee Jo Says:

Thanks for bringing Jason and Luke we are so excited!!! ZBB would be AMAZING!! A bunch of my friends saw them in Memphis and said Best show ever! I have seen some good ones so idk about all that :)

  81. Brandon person.. whatever you want to call me... Says:

    So… i must say as i have said before… Godsmack Yes… Skillet… YES… idk i saw something up a few people that said …
    Every Time I Die
    Underoath
    Emery
    Silverstein
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster

I agree with these bands.. totally up for them… my only concern is that Underoath and silverstein from what i know are pretty heavy bands… i’m not saying that heavy is bad… I am a HUGE fan of the heavy… my worry is that will we be able to get as many people for a concert like this being in the No offence to anyone at all… redneck south. i know that there are alot of metal/heavy rock fans in southeast… but are there enough?… i could be way out of my element here and we could sell out the smc and i would be kicking myself for saying that it may not be possible.. but its something to think about

Also idk who else is touring or anything idk anything about anyone starting up a tour… but what about getting a small local band concert… for example… idk any i suck at this but… what about getting like a few bands from the cape, jackson sikeston area and bringing them together… now im not saying that they all have to be country or all rock.. but have a few do like a 30-45 min set each… might be a way to promote some new bands.

    Brandon person

    • showmecenter Says:

Brandon, I’m a HUGE fan of the heavy too (don’t let anyone know that though), and I’m in the same boat as you. There are times that I wonder what type of support a band would receive here at the SMC and that is one of the BIGGEST reasons that I hit up this blog with ideas, possibilities and musings. But always keep in mind, promoters look at how past shows have done here at the SMC, if they find success for a genre they continue, if it’s lackluster they’ll have “reservations”.

It really helps when we get great input, as we SO often do here and your post is fantastic on many levels.

The local band showcase is something we’ve knocked around for quite sometime. One drawback is the amount of $$ for the actual production and staffing of the event and whether or not we’d lose cash. We are looking into purchasing our own “simple” lighting for these types of shows, and if it ends up going through could VERY much make the possibility of a local talent show quite real.

There’s another inteersting “package” tour out on the road right now that I’d like to see here. How about Billy Idol with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts?

    • showmecenter Says:

Weird to think that Billy and Joan are now… Classic rock. That’s a great package, one that I wasn’t aware of and may very well be a good fit for the SMC. I’ll look into it right away!

    • showmecenter Says:

Android thanks again for the heads up on this package. We’re calling other venues getting their info on the show too.

  83. Big Lee Says:

Just seen Rob Zombie/KoRn last night and definitely think they would be awesome for SMC when Mayhem tour is over!!!

    • Big Lee Says:

The next Rob Zombie tour will be in the fall and have Zombie, Alice Cooper and The Murderdolls!!! This would be awesome to have at the SMC!!!

      • showmecenter Says:

We’re still looking for Alice and Rob to route… Hopefully they’ll have a spot that passes through Cape and, ultimately, the SMC. Did you catch them in STL?

      • Big Lee Says:

Yeah, I caught them in STL with alot of great bands !!! It reminds me, Five Finger Death Punch and Lamb Of God both played on the main stage with KoRn and Zombie, and I believe any of those four bands would do great at the SMC!!!

        Any more news on Godsmack?

      • showmecenter Says:

Sounds like a kickin’ show Big Lee.

Right now Godsmack’s still in a holding pattern, no new news as they are still looking at finishing out the main part of the tour. I’m still holding out hope that they can find a route date for us.

The Zombie, Five Finger, Lamb & Korn show, was that hitting outdoor venues?

  84. Jwbirk81 Says:

Have you heard anymore about The Zac Brown Band?

    • showmecenter Says:

We’re still hoping to have Zac drop in, but after all the CMA awards and accolades, it may be a little tough. Keep hope alive though on him coming, they are still looking at routes to my knowledge.

  85. Android Says:

What would be the chances of getting John Mellencamp here? He’s touring this fall to promote a new album. He’s not as big a star as he used to be so maybe it would be possible to get him to play the SMC!

    • showmecenter Says:

Johnny Cougar, John Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp, John Mellencamp, a man that has out done even Prince in his renaming process.

I know his touring group was scouting out dates a year or two ago. I’ll have to check on this one, he’d be a good addition and fill a few different styles too. Good suggestion!

      • showmecenter Says:

Android… Just looked over some info and the performer of many similar names isn’t on the radar. We have a call today with an organization that we work with and I’ll check and see how that tour’s going and if he’s looking at adding.

Thanks for the heads up and I’ll be sure to update if I find anything out.

  86. Android Says:

The Kansas “Collegiate Symphony Tour” looks interesting. I’m not sure if SEMO has the proper symphony orchestra or would even be interested in doing this but it might be worth checking into. I saw Kansas earlier this summer and the were as great as ever. A two hour show with Knasas and a full symphony sorchestra would be killer!

    http://www.pollstar.com/blogs/news/archive/2010/08/10/735562.aspx

    • showmecenter Says:

That is a great idea, Kansas with the local symphony… You have to dig the “thinking outside of the box” on that one, plus they have a built in fan club of the students in addition to their own fans.

Good call Android on this one.

  87. Big Lee Says:

Looks like there is one day, October 21st, free for Godsmack/Five Finger Death Punch/Drowning Pool tour to come to SMC, In between St. Charles, Mo and Texas. Can you make it happen? Also, Skillet is starting up a tour with Papa Roach, Trapt, and My Darkest Days. Anything on it as well?

    • showmecenter Says:

We haven’t heard back yet from the Godsmack crew, hopefully we’ll have a little info soon. The Skillet, Papa, Trapt, Darkest Days show sounds like a good one too, I’ll have to look at the current route and give a heads up to the folks here.

      Good calls here Big!

  88. Android Says:

The Scorpions have just annouced that their farewell tour will continue through 2011 and they will be adding dates soon. Maybe, possibly here?

    http://www.pollstar.com/blogs/news/archive/2010/09/01/738487.aspx

    • showmecenter Says:

Android, I have to admit, you are on the ball and I always enjoy your nuggets and tour info! This could be one heck of a show too, and with it taking place over a span of a “few years” is one I’ve already forwarded on. I’m just always leery of “Farewell” tours, it always seems to result in a string of them… Oh well, at least I didn’t buy any dirt from the mound during Clemens last game as a Yankee or, for that matter, a Favre farewell jersey.

Thanks again Android and EVERYONE who are giving us such great insight, show suggestions and feedback it really helps us out here and gets our collective antennae up for these bands.

  89. Android Says:

The “Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience” tour looks interesting. The Pink Floyd Experience mentioned in the article below played in Paducah last year and is going to be back next spring. They put on a thoroughly professional show, although not quite as good as the Australian Pink Floyd Show I keep badgering you to book. If the management company puts together as good a show for Bonham as they do PFE is should be great.

    http://www.pollstar.com/blogs/news/archive/2010/09/10/739742.aspx

    • showmecenter Says:

Android, good call on the Bonham’s Zep Experience. Looks like one heck of a show! Bonham reminds me of Animal from the old Muppets back there behind the drums, apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I suppose. And the personal touch to the show looks beyond interesting, especially given the connection between father and son there.

I want to see the Aussie Floyd bad (personally), I’m right there with you. I’ve had tickets, ready to roll, then had a date here and have to miss it for the past 2 years. I’m really hoping to be able to catch them this year. I know we’ve placed requests for them, I’ll have to see what we have going with them now though.

      • Android Says:

There’s been some changes with the Australian Pink Floyd Show. The line-up we see here in North America is splitting with the original group and calling themselves the British Pink Floyd Show. This years tour is the last under the old name. The links below can fill you in on the details. BTW, still plenty of open dates in the Midwest for this years tour. Hint, hint!

Speaking of all things Floyd, are you going to see Roger Waters in October? The first show of the tour was in Toronto last night and it looks amazing! I’ll post a review link below too. I’ve had my tickets since the day they went on sale. I can’t wait!

  90. showmecenter Says:

Android, are you heading to the Sprint Center in KC to check out Waters? If so, that’s looking to be a heck of a show!

That news on TAPFS is veeeeery interesting. Looking into it further now, sorry for taking so long to get back on here… For some reason the updates are no longer emailed to me when a post comes, and on top of that it placed your comment in the “spam” box… Sweet huh?

Just throwing this out there, but it’s looking as though TSO may be putting together a smaller show, specifically for arenas… Anyone interested in this?

  91. Android Says:

The Waters show I’m going to is at the Scottrade Center Oct. 29th. I’ve talked to a couple of people on the Blindman’s Blues Forum, I’ve been a member and regular poster there for over five years, that have already seen it. To a person they’ve all said it was the best concert they’ve ever seen, and most of them are long time concert goers just like me. Believe it or not there’s still excellent seats left for the St. Louis show. The drawback is they’re going to cost you about $250 after all the Ticketbastard charges. That’s probably why they’re still available! Mine were only $55 plus charges. We’re pretty far up but straight in front of the stage. All of these cheaper tickets are gone though.

Do you even have to ask about TSO? Bring them back if at all possible!

    • showmecenter Says:

Ticket Prices: I personally wanted to see Young at the Fox a year or two ago… The only tickets I could find were $125 each (mind you these were not top of the line seating either, balcony I believe), and I actually had a vision of how dead I would be if I informed my better half of how much I’d spent on two tickets, that vision frightened me enough to pass on seeing him. Some ticket prices have just become nearly unreachable.

I could have swung $55 though I think. You’ll have to let us know how the Waters show goes down too!

      -Shannon

  92. Android Says:

Well, I guess it’s official. Zac Brown has already gotten too big to play the SMC. New tour dates are being released and they’re all at the larger arenas like the Scottrade Center. I’m happy for him but I sure wish we could have gotten him to play here before his popularity took off like a rocket!

  93. Big Lee Says:

Any rock show news? I see Poplar Bluff will get STP. What will SMC get? Any news on Skillet or Godsmack? I seen Godsmack is still booking dates. It looks like Skillet is starting one tour after the other. I hope you have some good news on a rock show!!!

  94. Android Says:

    Shannon,

Back before the Rodney Carrington concert got postponed you picked three of us regular posters and said tickets would be waiting at the Will Call window for us. I was just wondering if that offer was still good or did the postponement cancel that?

  95. brandon Says:

Hey Yall.. had one question… I know its not going to happen this year but what about getting TSO for next year?… also is there a charge for semo students for the mythbusters thingy?

    • showmecenter Says:

brandon, sorry for the lateness of this post, for some reason it seems as though the notification emails on new posts haven’t been coming to me… TSO is AWESOME and we’re currently looking at their new arena tour, keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned!

  96. Kevin Says:

This is why the SMC is and always will be a disappointment. Back when arena tours was the thing to do for Rock/Metal acts, the SMC wouldnt want them here. Now, the smaller venues such as SMC is out of the question for bands even with just a little accolade.

I grew up in the area and was excited when I heard about the SMC being built. But it has for the most part been a disappointment. The last good show to atract the younger crowd was Breaking Benjamin. Thats been 2 years now.

From what I see, them shows do well also. Isnt any reason the SMC shouldnt be getting some of these acts. I traveled to Chicago to see Testament/Slayer/Megadeth. The place was smaller than SMC. Made for a louder crowd, look packed crowd.

    • showmecenter Says:

You have a valid point Kevin. A problem that we frequently run into with Rock is a simply lack of available dates. Country acts usually have more available dates, so we have promoters interested in filling those dates.

It’s been demonstrated that “Classic” rock can do pretty well here. And we’ve looked at many shows within that, but when you balance the numbers, carry the 1′s it is sometimes very hard to make it work.

We’re looking to bring rock shows in, but at the same time, we need to be cautious with the amount of risk involved. Hopefully we’ll have some info and a show you’ll be interested in soon.

We really value your input and you make some very fine points, we certainly hope you continue to give us artists to investigate and check on, there have been a few shows here in my tenure that posts here and our other online sites have had a LARGE impact on making happen.

      Cheers,
      Shannon

  97. Big Lee Says:

Is there any way you all can get the Five Finger Death Punch, Hellyeah, The Damned Things December tour? If so that would be awesome!!!

  98. Kevin Says:

    @big lee

Doubtful. This is the SMC. They quit getting good shows.

  99. Android Says:

    Kevin,
I usually don’t reply to other posters comments here but yours really needed addressing. It’s not the size of SMC or what management is doing or not doing that causes certain acts to not play here. It’s simply the demographics of this area. With a small population base to draw from there’s only a couple of types of shows that are going to do well here and unfortunately the ones you’re wanting to see aren’t in those categories. Please understand that I’m not commenting on the quality of the acts you’ve proposed, everyones tastes are diffferent. Alternative/Metal acts just aren’t going to draw much of a crowd here and all you have to do is look at the attendance of the Tool concert for proof.

    • Big Lee Says:

The reason that the Tool show did bad was because the ticket prices were way to high and they had no big name openers to draw people in. I agree that they have quit getting good shows here. Hopefully they will come through with the Nightmare After Christmas Tour!!!

      • Android Says:

The Tool tickets were the same price here that the band charges every where else and they still drew less than 4,000. I wouldn’t think they would need a strong opener being that at the time they were sixth highest drawing touring act in the world. I hope the SMC gets that tour you’re wanting to see but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Like I said before, it’s a simple matter of demographics. A smaller population density means fewer fans of many types of music. The only acts that are ever going to do well here are country, some modern pop, and classic rock bands. The SMC isn’t doing anything wrong. It simply is what it is.

      • Android Says:

The Tool tickets were the same price here that the band charges every where else with the same opener that they used on most of the tour and they still drew less than 4,000. I wouldn’t think they would need a strong opener being that at the time they were sixth highest drawing touring act in the world. I hope the SMC gets that tour you’re wanting to see but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Like I said before, it’s a simple matter of demographics. • showmecenter Says:

Big, you bring up a very, very interesting point… How much is “too much” for a ticket? Are you aware that the tickets to the TOOL show were cheaper in Cape than other areas? The show at the SMC was the exact same bill, if I remember correctly, as the show in STL that sold out, with a higher ticket price.

Please don’t take this as me lashing out, it is very hard to convey tone via simple text on a screen. I am honestly interested in your thoughts on this.

Android also brings in some very good points. Demographics does play a role, as do attendance counts at previous shows (in genre and in area). The TOOL show was a coup for the SMC, to be able to bring them in was fantastic yet many thought that ticket prices were too high.

There again is that balance… How many will attend, at what price, at what additional costs that promoters look so closely at when preparing to bring in a band.

        - Shannon

      • Big Lee Says:

Like I said it is all about a well rounded lineup. I didn’t go to Tool because I really don’t like Tool and a lot a people that talked about Tool coming, don’t either. We all said the same thing, if they announce a good opening band then we would go. They didn’t and we didn’t go. I know I have been to plenty of shows where I went to see the opening bands and did not care to see the opener, and I think that sometimes gets forgotten. It’s not always about the headliner, when booking and promoting a show. I definitely think that Tool would have done better if they brought a “more known” opener act ( before you say anything, I understand that Melt-Banana is big in Japan).

As far as the demographics deal goes, it would be wise to book rock shows when the college is in session, another issue with tool, since it was in the summer when they came. I believe the last rock show (ludo doesn’t count, since they actually aren’t rock) was Three Days Grace, during college being in session and an ice storm, sold out. That shows me there is a demand for rock shows if done properly.

It is always good to test the water with what bands would actually draw a crowd, using market research and throwing names around on websites and local stations and seeing what feed back is received. Poplar Bluff did not do this with STP and that was a main reason why they did not rebook the show when STP rerouted the tour again. I heard they had sold very few tickets to the show. Personally I think many people who got burned when they had canceled in STL in September, were not going to risk it again. Also, they too, just like with the Tool show, never pushed any openers.

Hopefully you can get the Nightmare After Christmas tour to come here!!! Also I heard a rumor Kid Rock is coming here. Any truth to this? Even though he is not as good as he was 10 years ago, I would still like to see his show here!!!

      • showmecenter Says:

I agree, big in Japan doesn’t translate into big here. Melt Banana was… a very interesting band. But, by the same coin, that was what TOOL was going for on that particular tour, looking for relatively unknown, underground bands to open for them. Openers can really add a great deal to a show, and the TDG show is a fantastic example of that… HURT, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, holy cow!

The Three Days Grace show was amazing, and the fans showing up in the freezing cold, with their hair literally frozen is something that seriously impressed me. Hopefully, we’ll have another band you’ll dig soon.

        - Shannon

  100. Kevin Says:

The Three days grace/Breaking Benjamin/Seether/Hurt show just proves that what the other poster said is wrong. That person seems to think that the only draw here is Country and rock pop. That just isnt the case. This show proves that.

I have been frequenting and have worked at the show me center a few years back. Trust me when I tell you the reason they dont get the better shows that I and many others like, is because they really dont want to upset the community. Some years back they had Alice Cooper and there was bible thumpers protesting the show. Since then, the crew at show me center has really tried not to upset the general public. Scared of the bad publicity they would get. I know this to be true.

3 years ago, there was the Gigantour. It had 5 metal bands. Megadeth being the headliner. I went to Louisville Ky to see this show. Had roughly 4000 people in attendance. Tickets was a total of $35(with the convinience fee). The place they played was smaller than the show me center. So its not about draw, that show would draw here. SMC dont give the kids here enough benefit of the doubt to see what other shows would do good here. All they would have to do is start getting these shows and they would make thier money.

    • showmecenter Says:

I’ll say that in my experience here at the Show Me Center, I have yet to see the SMC shy away from a show. However, from an “outside looking in” perspective, I can certainly see where you may believe we’ve backed off of shows that could possibly “upset the apple cart” here in Cape Girardeau.

I can tell you from what I’ve seen that we do not push away an offer from a potential show due to how controversial the artist is. Many times it is simply an issue with the available dates and where we fall on the potential route of a show that causes the show to not come to fruition.

We know rock can work at the Show Me Center and we’re doing all that we can to bring it back to the stage, hopefully we’ll have a show in the genre soon.

      - Shannon

  101. Android Says:

When you’re posting on a public forum like this you are speaking in broad generalities to which there are of course exceptions. Just because one show of the type you’re wanting did pretty well doesn’t change the fact that in general that type of show has not drawn well here.

You’re just making my point for me with your Megadeth show example. If that show drew 4,000 people in a metropolitan area the size of Louisville it would struggle to get even a 1,000 to come see it here.

  102. Kevin Says:

The show would have drawn close to the same. You just assumed it wouldnt draw. The arena was carpeted off much like the same they could have done here. That was what was expected to happen at that show, close it off.

  103. Android Says:

And you’re just assuming it would draw the same here. What in the heck does how they arranged the venue seating have to do with anything? Population density affects attendance of shows. If there’s less people in an area then there are naturally fewer fans of each type of music. Louisville is the eighteenth largest city in the U.S. A concert that draws 4,000 people there with the fringe type bands you’re citing isn’t going to draw anywhere near as many people here because there’s less people here. I don’t know how it could be stated any simpler than that.

  104. Android Says:

I just thought of a real life example to illustrate my point about populations and concert attendance. In 1981 I attended Bruce Springsteen’s tour twice. I saw him at an almost sold out Checkerdome, had to be a least 16,000 people there. A week to the day later I saw him at SIU Arena and there was no more than 7,000 or so attendees. According to some people here’s logic the Arena should have been sold out but it wasn’t. Why? Because there’s fewer people here!!

  105. Android Says:

Avenged Sevenfold is playing Roberts Stadium in Evansville with three other similar bands next month. Although not my kind of music that sounds like a good one for fans of modern rock, maybe you should try to get it here. If you
‘ve never been to Roberts Stadium, where I saw MANY great shows in the 70′s, time is running out. They’re building a new arena in downtown Evansville to replace it. From the plans I’ve seen it’s going to be a lot nicer but a bit smaller than Roberts Stadium.

  106. Kevin Says:

There are lots of things just wrong about your statement.

    1. You block out seats to give it a smaller, fuller feel to the place. Makes it look bigger and better.

    2. You are the one assuming that that type of show(s) wouldnt draw. Yet nobody has given the chance for it to even try.

    3. Rock does very well here, proof positive. Look at the draw for Breaking Benjamin show that had other acts along with it.

    4. College town. Dont forget about the amount of revenue the college kids could bring in with shows, not just the surrounding cities.

    5. There isnt another venue within 60 miles (give or take) of the SMC. If they would just try to book some of these shows, they would see that something like this could draw.

Im done. Im stating what the general concensus around the younger crowd thinks and feels for the most part about the SMC. When a concert is announced, nobody has any thoughts that it will even come near the SMC. Most around know that in order to see said show, they would have to travel. Either St. Louis, or where ever that would be. Cause one thing is certain, SMC wont get it.

    • showmecenter Says:

Kevin, we honestly (and I do mean honestly) want rock shows… BAD. However, rock is, well… more expensive (read “riskier”). The Show Me Center depends upon promoters to take a risk with us on each and nearly every show here and a poor showing or a good showing can easily put a huge dent or additional gold in one’s coffers.

Rockers also, as a general rule (there are exceptions and I don’t mean to make broad sweeping generalizations), don’t have as many dates available and tend to focus on major metros (the STL or Memphis or KC, etc) and don’t tend to hit as many markets similar to Cape Girardeau. However, we do have a great deal of discussion with promoters concerning these shows and we try to “bring the rock”, but sometimes, the numbers just don’t come out as they’d like.

I can assure you, we are trying to bring more of these types of shows to the SMC, but it is a bit of a harder sell. But you have brought up one show that is a fantastic example of what rock can do, the 3DG, Breaking Benjamin, Seether and HURT show. Those folks not only sold out the SMC but did so on one of the nastiest, iciest days I’ve ever seen in Cape. This is the type of show that we continue to convince to come here and hope to book.

I also understand that as a fan of rock myself, how it can appear that we simply don’t even try. In fact, before I began work here I had similar thoughts run through my mind as well. After over 6 years here at the SMC, I can say it’s just not true. We do try, and I’ve seen shows that I’d KILL to see skim over due to a date not being available, or a routing issue and I just think, WHAT? Rock will be here, it just may take a bit more time.

Thank you again for your comments
      - Shannon

  107. Android Says:

Your last two statements prove you don’t know what your talking about. SIU is only 45 miles from here. They have a bigger arena and the student body is over double the size of SEMO’s. They draw from the same geopgraphic area as the SMC. They haven’t had a rock show in ages either.

  108. Android Says:

I really don’t mean to be argumentative but you need to get over yourself. You seem to have the attitude that the SMC is personally snubbing yoiu because they don’t book the bands that you want to see. It’s nothing personal man. It’s a national problem. Attendance is down everywhere and until things turn around you’re most likely not going to see anyone here except bands with across the board appeal.

  109. Android Says:

    Shannon;

Great job getting the Trans-Siberian Orchestra back. I can’t wait for May 12th! Now if you get something going on the Australian/British Pink Floyd Show (either one would do) I’ll be even happier!

    • showmecenter Says:

The Aussie Floyd Show is a personal vendetta of mine at this time… I constantly get tickets, only to have a show booked here before I can see it, therefore, I must make it my mission to get the show to the SMC so I may finally see it.

The TSO is huge, we’re awaiting some final details and seems like they “jumped the gun” a bit, but we’re confident that we’ll have info very, very soon.

      • Android Says:

Actually the band we’ve been seeing in St. Louis is the one that goes by name The British Pink Floyd Show now. I suppose I’ve never seen the actual “Aussies.” It’s unclear whether one, both or neither of them will tour the States this year but I’m sure they’re working on something. Keep at it, I think it would go over well here!

  110. Tommy Jackson Says:

Love that you got TSO back! Would love to see Yellowcard or Foo Fighters here over the summer as well, both releasing new albums fairly soon. Yellowcard would probably be more likely, but I’d be at either show if you could get them. Can’t wait for Thousand Foot Krutch either

    • showmecenter Says:

The FOO are a top ten favorite of mine, I’d love to see them too. Thousand Foot Krutch is sure to be a BIG fan favorite this Friday, looking forward to that show too.

And… I apologize to EVERYONE for neglecting the blog this long, there has been a great deal of activity (as I’m sure you’ve noticed based on the events coming left and right) here at the SMC and I’ve been doing well to just post on our FB, twitter and MySpace page.

Seems I missed a pretty interesting exchange as well.

Thank you all for keeping it up in here, I am going to scold myself now.

  112. Jeremy Says:

    Hey Shannon:

I have the awesome opportunity to go see Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Larry The Cable Guy live at The Scott Trade Center in St. Louis, March 11th. It would be awesome if you could get the trio to come to Cape. Mr. Engvall will be at Sikeston Fieldhouse March. I will let you know how the “show” goes. P.S. any “new” news on Jeff Dunham?

    • showmecenter Says:

That sounds like one heck of a show. A reuniting of the Blue Comedy Tour, I presume. Bill hitting the Sikeston Fieldhouse sounds like a good one to catch too.

No news on Dunham, if I had any though I’d have to KEEEEELLLL you.

      Cheers
      Shannon

  113. Android Says:

Bob Seger is touring this year. I’m pretty sure he’s too big an act for the SMC but one can always dream!

    http://www.pollstar.com/blogs/news/archive/2011/01/27/754265.aspx

    • showmecenter Says:

Android, your right on Seger. We tried to get him a while back, but felt that the ticket price that we’d have to come in at would simply be too high for our market.

We’d LOVE to have Bob roll in and I’m not saying it can’t happen at some point, however, at this time we’d have to wait for a few more stars to align to have a good chance at him. He is a constant on our radar though…

  114. Android Says:

Not exactly my type of music but I think this is the type of tour some people have been asking for.

    http://avalanchetour.com/tour-dates/

    • showmecenter Says:

Interesting that you bring that genre up… I may be looking for some serious help from rock fans soon to help us bring in an act…

That’s a heck of a tour there too!

  115. Tommy Jackson Says:

Just saw the Avalanche tour, definitely would love to see it come here, as it would save a trip to Springfield

    • showmecenter Says:

Tommy, that’s GREAT! Where did you catch them at?

If you check out Android’s post above, I may need a little help soon to persuade a potential group of acts to hit the SMC. Not the Avalanche tour, but something, I feel, pretty darn good!

      • Tommy Jackson Says:

I meant I saw it advertised, not saw the actual show. But sounds amazing. Would love to know what potential act you have coming

      • showmecenter Says:

Tommy, that announcement is coming… Soon™ (see that little TM there, yeah, we should trademark that, but I jest…)

We’re shoring up the schedule and awaiting official word from the new tour…

  116. Kevin Says:

I had a nice response typed up, but I will not post that.

SMC doesnt get much respect because you fail to bring in the desired acts that could come here. There are far more people that wanna see Hard rock and heavy metal acts, such as the Breaking Benjamin show, that some Craft fair or some other “publicly safe” show.

You want opinions? SMC is not a viable option for people that want rock concerts. It is for the most part, untapped.

And Mr. Android…im sorry I got it wrong that SIU arena is only 45 miles, and not 60 like I said. And you are right they havent done any rock shows in a while either. But, from the looks of it, it doesnt look like they do alot of anything anymore. Which further proves what I have been saying. This is a good place to be if you are the SMC. There is alot of area that could come here to enjoy a show. Instead, have to travel to St. louis or Memphis to see a decent arena show. Now you get my point?

  117. Android Says:

All I can say is WOW! What kind of thought process do you have to take the fact that the two largest arenas in this area haven’t done well with the type of shows you’re asking for and conclude that means they should schedule more of them? I give up. I concede to your superior musical knowledge and taste. The Show Me Center management should apologize, be publicly flogged then turn over operations to you!

  118. Kevin Says:

Android, you missed my point long ago. You either didnt wanna hear it, or it completly went by you.

Either way, I am done. You wanted opinions. Well, you got one. And I think it is safe for me to say that I do speak for many in the area that wishes the SMC would step it up with shows. Bring good shows in, people will be there. Dont go on a hunch, which is apparent to what you are doing, and book some of the acts.

Android, if all you are gonna do is trash talk, please leave the conversation. It really is childish to say the things you say on the internet.

    • showmecenter Says:

      Kevin,

Let me begin by stating this is just informational, not meant to be taken any other way. And your opinion is shared by many fans, especially of rock, out there. I truly value your opinion and thank you for sharing it here.

There is a lot of work that goes into bringing in a “Great Show” to the SMC. Many of the hours that we spend end up on the cutting room floor, never to see the fruition of their labors due to date/schedule/pricing/routing/other problems.

Simply put, we don’t go on hunches. A great (and I do mean GREAT) deal of market research is done prior to nearly every show here at the Show Me Center, and believe it or not, it’s not just us that do the research. The promoters, the SMC and even band management are all ACTIVELY comparing numbers, speaking with individuals within the community, entertainment business, other promoters, other venues and checking NUMEROUS sets of data before a show is scheduled, purchased, contracted, etc.

By the time we announce a show there are days, weeks, sometimes even months of man hours that have gone into the researching of the show.

Rock is a particularly hard breed to read too and as a general rule, the bands do not have as many tour dates. Less tour dates means less availability to step onto the Show Me Center stage. Rock usually has a bit of a bigger investment, monetarily as well, due primarily to the previously mentioned tour dates. Less dates results in more money asked for per show, more money per show means more risk.

Please trust me when I say that we do our homework, we pursue shows, we make offers and we do want shows. Sometimes it is just hard to find that match that lights all the necessary components.

I believe that what Android was attempting to get across, and I don’t mean to put “type in his box”, is what I sometimes have a hard time doing myself. That is looking at a show, as a fan, and making an instant determination that it will be a hit, or be a hater, and think the show will bomb. That is where the research comes in, that is where the work comes in, behind the scenes, and that is where we have to put aside my personal likes/dislikes and take each show on its own merit, in the harsh light of facts and figures. It’s hard.

I hope this provides some light on the SMC, and now looking at this post it is a small rambling novel.

      Cheers,
      Shannon

  119. Brandon Says:

ummm… SMC…. uhh…. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! April 25th….. ummm How much are tickets… you know what i’m talking about… when do tickets go on sale?

    • showmecenter Says:

      Brandon,

Thank you, thank you, a thousand times… Thank you! We’ve had our noses hard to the grindstone over the past year, trying to get some fantastic rock groups in here, so many slipped through our hands, but now we have one HECK of a lineup in Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace and Sevendust! We’re amped, we’re looped, we’re locked, we’re… you get the idea.

The information is up now for the show at http://www.showmecenter.biz/EventDetails.aspx?EventID=323 and if you are a member of our Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or All Access Email Club there should be an opportunity to pick up tickets on PRESALE too!

Looking forward to bringing this show in and rocking Cape’s face off.

      - Shannon

  120. Tommy Says:

Can you explain back corner seating?

  121. Brandon Says:

Hey Shannon… is there a student discount for semo students? for the avenged show… like you didn’t know that i was asking for that.. lol

  122. Brandon Says:

  123. Jim Says:
